Although it might not be as well known in the education world at large, the Seton Homeschool system is one of the more highly regarded programs for parents who want to educate their children at home.
Most people in the United States send their children to public school. Those who don't normally choose to send their kids to private schools (Most, but not all of these, are religious in nature). However, increasingly, some parents, who are disenchanted with both of those options, choose to teach their kids at home. They eel that by homeschooling their children, they will help their children to get a better education. This happens, they believe, because the parents are able to structure the lessons to meet their children's individual needs, thus letting them learn at their own individual pace.
There's much to be said for this reasoning. In the public schools especially, many children are held back because of the rigid structuring of the large classroom setting. The problem becomes compounded for the parents who would like to offer their children a Catholic education. Quite frankly, there is little available for these parents. Fortunately, though, one of the best homeschooling programs just happens to also be a Catholic program. It is the Seton Homeschool. Seton was developed by Dr. Anne Carroll in 1980. It's named after St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, founder of another Catholic program known as the American Catholic School System. Seton believes that their primary duty is to ensure the education of Catholic children.
The Seton program is for kids of all grade levels, k-12. They provide most of the supplies you'll need for your school. They feature daily lesson plans for the homeschool family, and they require the student take quarterly tests and send homework and other assignments to the school. Parent-graded material, though, still accounts for part of the student's grade.
There's nothing more important that a parent can give his or her children than a good education. This education will guide them throughout the rest of their lives, and determine their future. A Seton homeschool is an excellent way to set them on the right course and strengthen their Catholic faith in the process.
